The only game in which ship can be split in two (either by damage or intentionally) and each part will continue to fight independently, later parts can be reattached if needed. A bit of survival element - your suit needs fuel, energy and you need oxygen. Enemies are less common but are more of a challenge and more rewarding. Really nice if empty (hopefully for now) planets with real gravity. Space Engineers is more construction and a bit more realism oriented - collisions, mining with drills (can be automated), blocks need to be welded and grinded (if you want a shipyard you can build and automate it, but you actually need to put an effort to build and make it work, for example you need to account for presure from welders), massgravity dependency, automation in some regards is much more developed then in starmade yet inferior in other cases. Multiplayer works fine with large amounts of players. Mining and constructing is simplistic (just shooting lasers at ores to gather them and relatively simple block placing, shipyards also simple they almost spawn ships from resources). There is working economy and now NPC factions.

Universe is really big and full of planets, asteroids, stations, pirates. In Starmade the only physics are some simplest collisions and gravity. Starmade is more adventure oriented with a lot possibilities for ship decoration, block-based automation (logic and movement blocks) and wide selection of combat blocks.
